A cushion is usually pictured as a soft square. This one is different. At 7.5 × 5.7 mm, the 1.76 ct stone has a longer, more rectangular outline, which gives it a contemporary, design-led look. It is natural, untreated and of Russian origin, and it is part of our Alexandrite 1 carat up range.

Two ways to set an elongated cushion
Vertically (north-south). The classic orientation. The stone runs along the finger, which gives a ring a slim, elegant line and works well in a solitaire or with a narrow halo.
Horizontally (east-west). A favorite of modern jewelers. Turning the stone across the finger makes the ring look wider and more architectural, and it suits a bold, minimalist design with clean metal lines.
Both orientations let the face of the stone show the color change clearly, from greenish in daylight to reddish under warm incandescent light.
What makes it special
- Untreated: a natural alexandrite with no enhancement, the standard that serious collectors look for.
- Russian origin: alexandrite was first discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the 1830s and named for the future Tsar Alexander II.
- Over 1.5 carats: alexandrites above one carat are much harder to find than smaller stones, and this one is well beyond that mark.
- Everyday durability: at 8.5 on the Mohs scale, it can be worn daily, including in a ring.
Where to wear it
An elongated cushion is versatile. It can be a ring in either orientation, a pendant that hangs with a slim, elegant line, or a single drop on a chain. For earrings, it would need a second stone of similar quality. Our team will gladly advise.
